DE Turf names permanent director

DE Turf Sports Complex has announced Chris Giacomucci as its permanent executive director.

Giacomucci was named interim executive director of the Kent County Regional Sports Complex Corp. in August 2016.

"His work since being named interim executive director has been exemplary," said Board President Bill Strickland. "He has put together a business model that will both be successful in the short and long term ensuring success for the Turf and the desired economic impact for the area."

Giacomucci came to DE Turf from the Delaware Sports Commission, where he served as executive director for two years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in sports management and a master's degree in business administration, both from the University of Delaware.

"I'm extremely excited at the opportunity to serve as executive director in a full-time capacity," he said. "I appreciate the board's faith and confidence in me since assuming the role. This is just the beginning for DE Turf, and I look forward to overseeing its growth in the coming years."

Since being named interim director, Giacomucci has hired a full staff including directors for soccer, field hockey and lacrosse which combined have decades of coaching and professional experience.

In addition to scheduling programming for Delaware's athletes, DE Turf has booked nearly a dozen large scale tournaments for soccer, field hockey and lacrosse for 2017.

"I have a passion for the mission of the DE Turf Sports Complex to serve the business community in central Delaware and offer a quality of life for its residents that is unprecedented," Giacomucci said.
